#NoWrongPath

What is #NoWrongPath? It’s a social media movement that was launched back in 2017 by Developing the Young Workforce to provide inspiration and reassurance to young people receiving their exam results.

While some young people may feel disheartened by their results, the movement aims to show how many diverse and interesting job opportunities exist across Scotland and the wider UK and also how many people in these roles may not have taken a straight, obvious or traditional path to get there – and that there is #NoWrongPath

#NoWrongPath shows that opportunities exist all around us and exam results are not always the key to unlocking them.

Within Zonal, we’re proud of our people and their varied backgrounds. As part of Volaris, we’re connected to over 52,000 employees across 1,500+ software companies globally, yet we maintain our commitment to nurturing individual talent and celebrating diverse career journeys.

Dave Banks is one of our longest serving employees. He joined us on a part-time basis 25 years ago whilst he was studying Business Admin at University. He’s now our Service Delivery Director.

Dan O’Grady joined us after a long-term career with British Gas but he’s now flying high as one of our Regional Service Managers, managing our Northern engineering team. He’s never looked back and is delighted to have made the change.

Stuart Rice studied hospitality management before starting his career off with Whitbread, managing kitchens before getting into the world of implementation with Spirit pubs. Following a stint in implementation and training with Mitchells and Butlers he moved onto general management with Vintage Inns and Bistrot Pierre before seeing the light and jumping into account management at Zonal. He’s never once looked back and loves his new role.

Emma Sutton ran a café and organised family fun days before finding her way into software development. After a stint with Vodafone and Ecotricity, she joined us last month as a Senior Developer.

Carla Rossi joined us this year as an Account Manager but previously she’d had stints as a Procurement Specialist, an online travel agent with Expedia, a Regional Sales Manager for beverage brands, a hospitality consultant, and a reservist with the British Armed forces.  She even has her Brewing certificate!

Personally, after more than 10 years in hotel operations management, I chose to focus on HR and the people function and I’ve never looked back. Fast forward to the current day, and I’m happy to be part of a fast paced and growing technology business that is firmly attached to the hospitality sector, so I get to experience the best of both worlds.

As an innovative tech business that has grown at a rapid rate, we nurture and support passionate young people that want to join the company and refine their skillset. We’re proud of our record on apprenticeships and are always keen to support both the Foundation Apprenticeship and Modern Apprenticeship preprogrammes across the business. We’re also engaged with Career Ready and their mentoring programme and have been a firm supporter of Codeclan and its approach to honing technical skills. Being part of Volaris strengthens our ability to invest in talent development while maintaining the personal, supportive culture that makes Zonal special. With the skills shortage ever more apparent, encouraging young people into our industry is vital.
