On Wednesday 29th May we were thrilled to play host to launch of the Digital Start Fund at our Tanfield Office.
The fund is a brand new Scottish government initiative in partnership with Skills Development Scotland, designed to encourage more people into the digital or tech industry in Scotland. Huge amounts of money are being invested into retraining and skilling up people to encourage them to change paths and enter the world of technology. The tech sector is Scotland is already predicted to be the largest growth sector by 2024 – already growing at double the rate of the rest of the economy.
The scheme is also designed to help the long term unemployed seek new skills and a longer term career in a field that they’ve not perhaps previously considered. For Zonal, as a growing business ever on the lookout for potential talent, this is a great initiative. One of the 4 training providers awarded the tender in the process was CodeClan, who Zonal already partner with. The existing pool of talent is ever decreasing – a challenge Zonal and particularly the recruitment team faces on a daily basis – and this initiative will help redress the balance and grow that pool further.
Kate Forbes, Minister for Public Finance and the Digital Economy, launched the programme and toured the building, meeting members of the development team. Kate, particularly enjoyed playing with some of our kit and visiting the “Zonal Museum”.
