Database Administrator

Purpose of the Job

Ensuring the administration,
monitoring, performance and availability of our mission critical datacentre and
customer on premise database services.

The Technical Services Department
consists of Managed Services, Field Service Engineering, Repair Centre,
Warehouse and Production, Technical Support andTechnical Consultancy reporting to the
Director of Technical Services and ultimately to the Operations Director.

Support is provided based upon the
SLAs in place with the customers. These are monitored on a daily basis and
reported back to the customer at regular intervals.


  • Administration, monitoring and troubleshooting
    of datacentre and customer on-premise database systems

  • Managing performance, availability, and
    disaster recovery of database systems

    Skills, Knowledge
    & Experience


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in installation, management, and production support of MS SQL in a mission critical environment

  • Hands
    on scripting and automation skills

  • Demonstrable
    experience in backup strategies, maintenance frameworks, performance tuning, proactive
    monitoring, and remediation

  • Solid
    troubleshooting skills and attention to detail

    Some or all the

  • Tool
    creation and scripting with T-SQL / Powershell

  • Transactional
    replication, mirroring, AlwaysOn Availability Groups

  • Tuning,
    query optimisation and execution plans

  • Generalised
    Windows Server and vSphere administration

  • Degree
    educated or relevant professional certification

  • Experience
    of delivering exceptional customer service both internally and externally within
    an IT service environment

  • Exhibit
    planning and organisational skills; able to establish efficient and appropriate
    plans for self and others, adapting quickly and effectively to unexpected
    changes whilst still ensuring objectives are met

  • Customer
    service; must understand and respond to customer needs (internal and external)
    and exceed expectations where possible.

  • Communication
    and team working; must work co-operatively with others to achieve a common goal
    and communicate information in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
