Android Developer

Main Duties and

  • Design and Build applications for the Android platform
    as required

  • Ensure the performance, quality and
    responsiveness of applications

  • Collaborate with the team to define, design and
    ship new features and new apps as required by the Product Owner / Business

  • Identify and correct bottlenecks in the delivery

  • Work to fix bugs as prioritised by the Product

  • Maintain and improve code quality

  • Strive towards a continuous integration and
    delivery process in a pragmatic manner where appropriate


  • 2+ years’ commercial experience of developing apps within a development team environment

  • Experience in programming in Java, Android
    Studio, gradle and other IDE tools.

  • Experience integrating with existing RESTful

  • Knowledge and experience of Git and version

  • Experience in publishing to the Play Store/App

  • Strong knoweldge of the Android SDK, different
    version of Android and how to deal with screen size differences

  • Experience with offline storage, threading and
    performance tuning

  • Demonstrable experience in Android UI design
    principles, patterns and best practice

  • Use of deployment and provisioning tools

  • Working in an agile environments

  • Use of tools to support the SDLC e.g. JIRA, TFS,
    GIT etc.

Desirable Key Skills:

  • Worked on eCommerce apps

  • Android unit testing

  • Experience with performance and memory tuning

  • Experience of iOS Development

  • Knowledge of low-level C-based libraries

  • Commercial use of Xamarin/Phonegap or similar

  • Successful use of software development
    methodologies and processes e.g TDD, BDD, CI and CD.

  • Demonstrable ability to manage several work
    streams simultaneously.

    and verbally.

  • Clear decision-making ability with the facility
    to judge complex situations and assess when to escalate issues.

  • Ability to balance conflicting and changing
    demands through prioritisation and a pragmatic approach

  • Good team player, self motivated and able to work on own initiative and as part of the wider team
